The Peace Poem

O peace where have you gone
Just return with the pace of a fawn
I searched for you everywhere
But every time you left me in despair
When you are gone the humans perish
In your presence the nations flourish
I want you in the whole earth
But I missed you since my birth
Oh peace! Promise you will come back
And fill my life with what I lack

The Lake

A ray from the star fondled its heart
And woke a cloud from the spell;

A breeze from the heaven promised the drove
To part the cloud from the sea.

Over the waters and over the lands
The darling of skies rode all the way;

Motherly lap of 'Mother Firdous'
Was eager to lull the child of sea.

Magic sheltered by the air of the lap
Turned flakes out of the cloud;

The snow fell down on the top of a crown
And waited for the chirp of the springtime's bird.

The magic changed when almond blossomed
And turned river out of the snow;

The river flew down from the top of the crown
And laid in the heart of the valley's charm.

Springs too sprang to dip in its vigor
And filled its brim with waters- divine.

Like floating pearls were the floating drops
On the floating leaves of its lotus flowers.

It was a lake, Dal Lake;
The pride of a land, the symbol of a planet.

But, selfish brain and greedy hand...
It's still a lake- a dead lake!

An awe of the land, A desperation of the planet,
The dump for a city, the end for a drain.

Yes,it is the lake, Dal Lake-
The sign of civilization, a vestige in evolution

About Flicker For Kashmir

Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It's the northernmost part of the Indian subcontinent. Besides being popular for tourism Kashmir is well- known for its rich and unique cultural heritage that notably includes fantastic cuisine, handicrafts, and more.

Nature has been generously lavish in bestowing upon the land of Kashmir an awe-inspiring beauty which is beyond the description of words. Whether it was the 6th century traveler Hiuen Tsaing who, awestruck by the magnetic beauty of its scenic terrains, spent at least 2 years of his life in Kashmir; or Kalhana, a Kashmiri poet who wrote: ‘things that even in heaven are difficult to find are common here’; or, the Persian poet, Urfi who captured its entire beauty in a couplet, ‘if at all there is heaven on earth it is here, it is here, it is here’, Kashmir has never failed to entice its spectator.

‘Flicker for Kashmir’ has been created to promote the beauty of Kashmir by pooling-in the most exquisite pictures of this dreamland. I invite you to join our rapidly expanding community and present your contributions and feedback. All pictures related to Kashmir, its people, culture, businesses, food and everything else that comprise it are welcome.
